What is Montessori Education

Montessori Education

Montessori pre-schools offer an educational approach that is uniquely different from traditional methods. Montessori emphasizes a child-centered and hands-on learning environment, which allows children to learn at their own pace and develop a sense of autonomy. Children can explore their own interests and become self-directed learners.

When learning more about Montessori Education,  you will come across the five principles of the Montessori Method and how holistically these principles contribute to the overall goal of creating a love of lifelong learning in children. These principles consider the child at the centre of their own learning experience with educational leaders, the environment and a child's instinct at the forefront.

1. Respect for Students.png

Respect for Students

Montessori Method teachers are trained to take their students’ curiosity seriously and foster their independence to help them learn for themselves.

2. Absorbent Mind.png

The Absorbent Mind

Children are ready and eager to learn and that they easily absorb information from the world around them.

3. Sensitive Periods (1).png

Sensitive Periods

Montessori teachers are trained to observe their students and identify sensitive periods during a child’s development when their capacity for absorbing certain information or mastering specific skills is noticeably increased.

4. The Prepared Environment.png

The Prepared Environment

A Montessori classroom is an environment designed to promote the students’ freedom of choice.

5. Autoeducation.png

Autoeducation

In a Montessori school, environment, authentic freedom of choice, and respect for the students work together to promote a life-long love of learning.

Our program is dedicated to nurturing each child’s self-esteem, empowering them to reach their full potential as compassionate, contributing members of their families and the wider community.

We bring this vision to life through the Montessori philosophy, focusing specifically on three core pillars:

1. Follow the Child

Our model respects the individual pace of every learner. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, we allow the child’s natural interests and development to guide their educational journey.

2. "Help Me Do It Myself"

We move away from passive instruction and toward active empowerment. By guiding children through the steps of a task rather than doing it for them, we foster the independence and confidence they need to master their world.

3. Freedom Within Limits

We believe children possess an innate capacity for self-control and decision-making. Within a carefully prepared environment, we provide the boundaries necessary for safety and respect, giving children the "freedom" to explore, choose, and grow responsibly.

Teaching Staff

Our Educational Team are made up of 3 VIT registered, Early Childhood Teachers, Diploma qualified (Children's Services) and Certificate III qualified staff, all of which have over a decade of Montessori early childhood education experience each.

The Montessori teachers are referred to as Directors, and as the name suggests they direct the child through careful observation, planning, and providing learning materials to meet the needs and interests of that child. Our focus is on children learning, not on teachers teaching. A Montessori lesson is given on a one-on-one basis and occasionally in small group lessons. Our lessons are brief and precise, meant to broaden the interests and understanding of your child.

Our teachers create an Individual Learning Plan that is unique and specific to every child, to ensure a tailored and comprehensive preschool education. We are able to provide an authentic, Montessori education because we only employ Montessori qualified and trained educational staff. We don't just see Montessori as a marketing buzz word, the Montessori Method is deeply embedded in our philosophy and vision at the Preschool.
